This techinque is gentler on the wood and so produces an oil whose chemical content is nearer that of the natural wood. Steam and Hydro distillation use heat and evaporation to extract the volatile aromatic oils from the wood. The heat causes many molecules to die off and others are too heavy to rise with the steam into the receiving vessel.
