Palo Santo wood chips (Bursera graveolens) from Peru are easy for making incense blends or delightful as a stand-alone incense!

Palo Santo, also called “Holy Wood” is native to many Latin and South American countries, as far south as Peru. Local populations use Palo Santo to make bowls, utensils and other household items in addition to sacred ceremonial use.

As incense, Palo Santo is utilized primarily as an alternative to smudging, with stick or chunks that self-extinguish, filling the space with warm, sweet smoke that is said to purify. The wood can also be ground, powdered and used in small amounts as an ingredient in incense mixtures.

On an interesting note, Bursera graveolens is related to frankincense and myrrh, as they belong to the same family: Burseraceae.

No trees are destroyed in the collection of our wood as it is harvested from fallen branches. Palo Santo mixes wonderfully with all the copal resins, sandalwood, balsams, vanilla, benzoin, etc.

The chips are much easier to burn on charcoal. The quality is very good.
